OKARA: Seven police officials, including an inspector, were booked on the orders of the additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) for keeping a man in illegal custody and misuse of powers.
About four weeks back, a police team entered the house of one Fida Hussain in the Ayub Park area of the city. They subjected him to severe torture before putting him in the lock-up.
Fida’s brother, Altaf, filed a petition before the court of ADSJ Muhammad Tariq Ayub under Section 491 of the CrPC against the illegal detention. A court bailiff recovered Fida from the lock-up and directed the district police officer to register a case against all the responsible police officials.
Later, Altaf filed another petition in the same court as the police were not implementing the court orders.
On Monday, the City A-Division Police Station at last registered a case against Inspector Tariq Javaid, Sub-Inspector Arif Randhawa, ASI Muhammad Ahmad Chishti, head and naib moharrar and two unidentified constables of the police station under the Police Order 2002.
