HYDERABAD, Sept 16: The nomination papers of the Awam Dost Panel candidate for the district nazim of Tando Mohammad Khan were rejected by the returning officer on Friday. Speaking at a hurriedly called news conference, Haji Mohammad Amin Lakho, a former MPA, alleged that the Sindh chief minister was directly involved in the rejection of his papers.

He said that the chief minister was using government machinery against the opposition in the local body elections. He said that his name was also removed from the voters’ list of 2001 by the DCO on the instructions of Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

Later, talking to Dawn over telephone, the former MPA said that he would go to the high court to seek justice.

He appealed to the party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto to allow him to contest the next general elections against Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

Meanwhile Zulfiqar Ali Shah has decided to contest the elections for the district nazim of Tando Mohammad Khan against the decision of Sindh chief minister, who had nominated a candidate from the Mir group.

He said that he had support of 130 elected councillors of the Syed group of Khushhal Pakistan Panel, Faqir Dost Group, and MQM, and said, that he was a better candidate than anyone from the Mir group.

A meeting was held at Saeedpur Takkar on Friday and decided to support Zulfiqar Ali Shah. The meeting expressed full confidence in the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf and said that the chief minister had taken a hasty decision by nominating a candidate from the Mir group.
