RAWALPINDI: To solve the parking and traffic jam issue, Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood on Saturday directed Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) to start work on the construction of six commercial-cum-parking plazas in the garrison city.

He gave directives while reviewing development works of the city in his office.

Six parking plaza-cum-commercial plazas are planned on City Saddar Road aka Jinnah Road, Banni Market, Fifth Road, Commercial Market Satellite Town, Children Park and Airport Road.

The commissioner said that parking plazas would solve the parking and traffic issues in the city areas. He said there was a dire need to construct the parking plazas as it would increase the business activities in the city.

He said the traffic police had been directed to clear footpaths and roadsides along Rehmanabad and 6th Road of vehicles sellers on Friday as it created a mess on the main road.

“To end the traffic issue on District Courts Square (Kutchery Chowk), the flyover and underpass had been planned and it would be constructed on private-public partnership basis and district administration will start work on the project soon,” he said.

He asked the traffic police and RMC administration to ensure no vehicle was parked along Rawalpindi Institute of Urology.
