ISLAMABAD: After a gap of two days, Islamabad registered a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, but it remained under triple digit, sources told Dawn.

The officials of the capital administration told Dawn that with the arrival of 93 cases, the tally of confirmed cases stood at 13,650. They said after the death of two more people on Wednesday the total number of fatalities was now 142.

The officials said at present active cases in different hospitals and home were 3,569 after recovery of 9,939 patients.

Giving a breakup of 93 cases, the officials said 58 were men and 35 women.

They said 11 cases were reported from I-10, eight from G-6, seven from Banigala, six each from G-9, G-8, five from G-11, four each from G-7, Chack Shahzad, three each from Taramri, Sohan, Bahria Town, two each from Khanna, I-8, I-9, G-10, E-11, B-17, one each from Shakrial, Sangani, Tarnol, Model Town, National Police Foundation, PWD, Iqbal Town, Kirpa, H-11, H-13, H-9, G-13, G-15, G-5, F-7, F-8, F-5, F-6, DHA, Bahra Kahu.

Rawalpindi

In the garrison city too, 93 patients tested positive for Covid-19, taking the tally of confirmed cases to 6,079 while 16 patients discharged after they recovered from the deadly virus.

In the last three months, out of total 6,079 confirmed patients, 4,385 recovered from the virus while 246 died and 1,448 are still admitted to the hospitals.

At present, 1,448 confirmed patients are under treatment including 652 in the hospitals and 796 patients at their homes.

Apart from this, 240 suspected patients were admitted to four hospitals of Rawalpindi city. Their samples had been sent to National Institute of Health (NIH) and Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Holy Family Hospital laboratory for Covid-19 serology.

The district health authority officials said that sample of all close contacts of confirmed patients had also been sent to laboratory for Covid-19 serology.

Meanwhile, 11 shops were sealed in Raja Bazaar and adjoining markets on Wednesday for violating the standard operating procedures to prevent spread of coronavirus spread.

Besides, the assistant commissioners imposed a fine of Rs80,000 on the shopkeepers for violating the SOPs.

Besides impounding 38 vehicles, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Mehar Ghulam Abbas imposed a fine of Rs43,000 on public transporters for violating SOPs.

Attock

In Attock, a health worker was among 12 who tested positive for coronavirus, health department officials told Dawn.

With the appearance of new cases, the number of confirmed cases increased to 478.

The district focal person for Covid-19, Dr Asif Arbab Niazi told mediapersons that among these 12 new positive patients, four belonged to Attock city; five to Hazro and three to Fatehjang.
