PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman Monday said the vice-chancellors of government universities should be strengthened to execute administrative affairs for the better performance of higher educational institutions in the province.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting, which was attended by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan here at the Governor’s House, according to a statement.

The meeting discussed suggestions for improvement of educational standard of institutions of higher education in the province and resolution of their administrative and financial problems. The governor said improvement of the administrative system of universities would be pivotal in the dissemination of quality education.

He expressed concern about the performance of syndicates of different universities and said some decisions of syndicates caused grievances among faculty members of their respective institutions.

Mr Farman said the syndicates would be bound to implement the senate decisions in letter and spirit to promote quality education. He said examination papers of one university should be checked by another university to bring transparency in paper marking and maintain students’ confidence in that respect.

The governor called for joint efforts to improve the standard of higher education and said quality education was imperative for the country’s good future.

The meeting was attended by adviser to the chief minister on higher education Khaleequr Rehman, principal secretary to the governor Nizamuddin, principal secretary to the chief minister Shahab Ali Shah, higher education secretary Hassan Mehmood Yousafzai and other relevant officials.
