LAKKI MARWAT: The wildlife department has set up a quarantine facility at the wildlife park and crane conservation centre located along the Indus Highway near Kurram river here.
Bannu division commissioner Shaukat Ali Yousafzai inaugurated the facility on Wednesday, which would be used to quarantine birds and animals transported to the park or seized from smugglers.He also inaugurated the solar-powered tubewell and inspected enclosures of birds and animals. Deputy commissioner Abdul Haseeb accompanied him.
DFO Rehmatullah Khan and park official Abdul Rehman briefed the commissioner about the facilities in the park. Mr Yousafzai said the wildlife park was the major recreational facility in the district and the government would spend more funds on its development.
He stressed the need for raising awareness among people of conservation of forest, wildlife and environment. He said the quarantine facility would help to protect animals and birds from diseases.
The commissioner laid the foundation of new fruit and vegetable market,bus stand and cattle market near Lakki city during a ceremony.These facilities will be established on 150 kanals owned by the tehsil municipal administration.
