PESHAWAR: The Covid-19 claimed 16 more lives, taking the tally to 951 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.

The victims also included Dr Gul Marjan, a former ENT surgeon, who was admitted to the Mufti Mahmood Memorial Teaching Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan, according to the provincial doctors’ association. It said that number of the total health professionals falling prey to the coronavirus had reached 13 in the province.

Meanwhile, the province reported 483 new cases raising the total number of confirmed patients to 26,598, according to a health department report.

It said the province also registered recovery of 441 patients from the pandemic, taking the total number to 13,067.

Peshawar recorded six more deaths where number of people having fallen to the infection reached 459, while three people died of the infection in Abbottabad, where the virus has so far claimed 42 lives.

Two persons died each in Nowshera, Mardan and Dera Ismail Khan, where total count of the deceased has reached 40, 51 and 13, respectively. One person died in Mansehra, taking the total count of fatalities to 11.

The provincial capital registered 193 new patients, taking the number to 9,222, highest by any district in the province. Lower Dir tested 64 new patients, taking its total number of positive cases to 1,263, while Swat diagnosed 30 new patients with the infection, raising its overall cases to 2,523.

Cases in Mardan reached 1,074 with emergence of 10 new patients, while Charsadda reported 15 more patients, with total count standing at 699.
