ISLAMABAD: The National Price Monito­ring Committee (NPMC) of the government on Friday took notice of the price hike of poultry products in the country and asked provincial governments to take action against profiteers and bring down prices of poultry products to provide relief to the masses.

The NPMC meeting, chaired by its chairman federal finance secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, reviewed prices of essential food commodities.

The committee directed provincial governments and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to take strict action against profiteers taking undue profit margin in the sale of the products and ensure smooth supply of these food items in markets and bring their prices down.

Government takes notice of heightened prices of poultry products

The provincial representatives and officials of ICT administration assured the meeting that they would take all possible measures to bring down prices of poultry products in markets in coming days and take action against profiteers.

The committee also directed the Competition Commission of Pakistan to share their findings on the poultry sector with the provincial governments and the ICT to streamline and bring down prices of these food items across the country.

The NPMC also directed the Ministry of National Food Security to make necessary coordination and consultation with provincial governments to monitor and control prices of wheat and wheat flour and take measures to ensure their smooth supply in markets to provide relief to the masses.

The committee ordered all relevant authorities of the federal and provincial governments to monitor the provision of essential food items at affordable prices to the people and remove price disparity and keep an eye on people making hefty profit by selling these products at very high rates.
