Nazim asks police not to detain women

KHAIRPUR, Jan 18: District Khairpur Nazim Syeda Nafeesa Shah has directed police not to detain women in lieu of wanted accused.

She was speaking at a meeting of elected representatives and police officials at Sachal auditorium here on Thursday.

The meeting was aimed at creating better working relationship and understanding between the police and the elected representatives of the district.

Miss Shah categorically said that no women should be detained in lieu of wanted criminals. She vowed that those who insult womenfolk would be taken to task.

It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the taluka Nazims and the SDPOs at taluka level and the UC Nazims and the SHOs at union level would hold monthly meeting reports of which would be sent to the district Nazim and the SSP.

The Nazim called upon the public to cooperate with police to eradicate social evils.

She announced that medical centres would be set up throughout the district in order to treat and rehabilitate drug addicts.

The meeting also decided to organize a seminar on Jan 24 in Faiz Gunj for creating better understanding between the police and the elected representatives.

DETAINED: Some 10 activists of banned religious organizations, who were arrested from different areas a couple of days ago, have been sent to central jail Sukkur and Khairpur under MPO here on Friday.

They include Mohammad Ilyas, Ghulam Hyder Pathan, Ansar Hussain Khaskheli, Najam Baqar Pirzado, Ghulam Abbas, Mohammad Sadiq, Saifullah Siddiqui, Shamsuddin, Islamuddin Arain and Hafiz Ali Mohammad Bhayo.
