Police inspector dies of Covid-19

RAWALPINDI: Coronavirus claimed life of a senior inspector of Rawalpindi police on Monday night Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU).

The deceased had recently been promoted to the rank of inspector and was waiting for posting. He left behind a widow, three sons and three daughters. His body was shifted to his native town Hazro and later laid to rest as per Covid-19 protocol.

City Police Officer Ahsan Younis and Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ali Akbar supervised the shifting of the body to his native town. They also gave financial assistance to his family on the directive of Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastagir.

The number of police officers/officials infected with the coronavirus has surged to 90 in the Rawalpindi division with one death.

Of the 90 infected with the virus, 65 police officials belonged to Rawalpindi district, 11 to Attock, 10 to Jhelum, one to Chakwal and three police officials posted at the RPO office. The infected police officers/officials are from SP to the constable ranks.In the Rawalpindi district, 60 police personnel have tested positive for coronavirus so far while five cases have been reported from Attock police and one from Chakwal.

On the other hand, the education wing of the City Traffic Police launched an awareness campaign about prevention of coronavirus on Tuesday.

During the campaign, which was launched on the directives of the CTO, the traffic staff on duty also provided awareness to the children and citizens about the coronavirus.
