KARACHI, Sept 11: A team of young and committed doctors has announced to build a burns and general hospital for children to provide free of cost treatment in the country. This announcement was made at a Defence Day function organized by the Serving Hands Organization in collaboration with the Public Relation Management Group on Saturday evening. Privatization Secretary Tehseen Khan Iqbal and founder of burns ward at NICH Prof Dr Nizam were also present on the occasion.

Dr Sikandar Ali Shaikh, the chairman of the NGO, said that there was a dire need for building a specialized burns hospital in the country. He said that there were some burns ward in general hospitals but they could not handle complicated third degree burns. Most of such patients were poor while the treatment of burns was very costly, he added.

He said that most of the poor children in the country also died of waterborne diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and dehydration. Their lives could be saved at a nominal cost and this hospital would make it, he vowed.

Dr Shaikh said that despite heavy rains, a large number of people especially doctors turned up for this humane cause.

Tehseen Khan Iqbal, who consented to be the chief patron of this proposed hospital, said that this hospital would be built in any big city, where the number of reported cases of burns was higher. —APP
