APROPOS the news report ‘26 ventilators made functional at Pims’ (June 2). Since the number of Covid-19 cases is rising at an alarming rate, I fear that the number of ventilators required would be much more than those that have been made functional.

Furthermore, the report goes on to state that 12 new ventilators were found to be without the necessary accessories. This speaks volumes about the competence of Pakistan Institute of Management Sciences (Pims) personnel.

Why did the Pims management accept ventilators without accessories?

The National Disaster Management Authority must probe the matter and ask the OEM department to provide the missing accessories without delay so that another 12 ventilators can be added to the inventory of operational ventilators.

Another solution is to manufacture the accessories locally as the country has the requisite know-how.
