K-Electric facing furnace oil shortfall

KARACHI: Rise in temperatures and growing usage due to the easing lockdown has caused power demand to peak at 3,200MW, said K-Electric on Wednesday.

The power utility said it is facing challenges on account of furnace oil shortfall, which is compromising the generation capability at its furnace-oil fired 1,250MW Bin Qasim Station.

“K-Electric’s daily furnace oil requirement is close to 4,500 tonnes per day, while at present we are receiving only around 1,500 tonnes daily. Currently there are pending orders of close to 13,500-tonne furnace oil which have not yet been supplied; this is creating difficulties in meeting power demand which may necessitate load-management even in exempted areas to meet the shortfall between supply and demand.

Until such time as the federal and provincial governments start treating the citizens of Karachi like the population in the rest of the country, the fleecing of the public living in the metropolis will carry on unabated by any one who can bribe the political parties and get them into power. Whether it is the present owners of the K-Electric or the Chinese buyers who are keen to get the same, each one of them is hell bent over minting money at the cost of causing misery to the populace at large and the rulers are only interested in letting the owners do as they please since they accepted donations from the owners for just this purpose.v
