LAHORE: Punjab reported record 43 deaths of Covid patients in a single day besides 1,610 people tested positive for the virus the same day which was another record number of confirmed cases.

According to the official figures released late on Tuesday night, 15 patients died in Rawalpindi, seven in Multan and six in Lahore.

The total number of deaths in Punjab has reached to 540, including 205 in Lahore, 115 in Rawalpindi and 69 in Multan.

Similarly, out of total new confirm cases, 832 were reported from Lahore, 196 from Faisalabad, 126 from Multan and 119 from Rawalpindi.

Inspector dies: A police inspector of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Lahore died of Covid-19 while two senior police officers tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Inspector Amir Dogar of CIA tested positive for the virus was under treatment at a private hospital in Lahore. He was later put on ventilator due to serious infection in his lungs and died on Tuesday during treatment.

Presently posted as in-charge CIA Civil Lines police, the deceased had served as station house officer at various police stations of the city.

Earlier, the virus had taken lives of four personnel of the Punjab police, including three in Lahore when they got infected during duty.

A senior police officer in Lahore and another in Central Police Office tested positive for the virus, taking total confirmed cases to 113 in Lahore so far.

Of them 74 have rejoined their duties after complete recovery, a police official said.
