GUJRANWALA: A doctor and a medical student died of Covid-19 while 20 other doctors, including senior and junior medical staff, were sent into isolation after being exposed to patients of the virus on Sunday.

Dr Naeem and student Dr Sulman Tahir were performing their duties at the civil hospital here.

Twelve other doctors also tested positive for the virus and most of them have quarantined themselves at their homes. Some of them were in critical condition and being observed. Most of these doctors were performing their duties at the DHQ hospital here.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Pirmahal Assistant Commissioner (AC) Marhaba Nemat has tested positive for Covid-19.

Pirmahal Deputy District Health Officer Dr Bahlak Ali Juttu and a team of doctors had collected her throat and nasal swabs two days ago when she felt some symptoms of the virus. Her test report received on Sunday from the Punjab Public Health Referral Laboratory confirmed her as Covid-19 positive.

Health department officials said the AC had been quarantined at her home. Deputy Commissioner Amina Munir called Ms Nemat and inquired after her.

Earlier, the mother of Ms Nemat had also tested positive for Covid-19 and was quarantined at home.

SIALKOT: A 60-year-old woman died of Covid-19 on Sunday and was buried in Chawinda, Pasrur tehsil. The woman had been admitted to the Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital a week ago where she died.

SHEIKHUPURA: Two Covid-19 patients died at a hospital on Sunday after they were found to be infected with coronavirus a few days ago. The deceased were residents of Safdarabad and Macheki, and were buried under the supervision of a special team in their native graveyards.

BAHAWALPUR: A senior journalist tested positive for Covid-19 here on Sunday.

The private TV channel anchor quarantined himself in his house in Qasim Town after his test came out positive. Samples of his family members were also collected for tests to be conducted at the government civil hospital here.

So far, coronavirus has claimed six lives here, including an elderly man and a woman from Uch Sharif. According to focal person Dr Zakir Hussain, 181 people in the district had so far tested positive for coronavirus, while 124 of them recovered.

MUZAFFARGARH: A coronavirus patient died in Muzaffargarh on Sunday while two others had died on the previous day.

The Thermal Power House Colony was also sealed because of panic in the area. The administration of thermal power plant said the people were being checked at the entrance as nobody was following standard operating procedure (SOP) in the district.

LODHRAN: A former professor died of coronavirus on Sunday.

According to a health department source, former professor of physics Mr Allah Bux Bhatti, 80, a resident of Chak 389-WB Tehsil Dunyapur, died of Covid-19. He was admitted to Kidney Centre, Multan, for the last four months. Some days back, he contracted virus and was admitted to Erdogan Hospital, Muzaffargarh where he died.
