KARACHI, Sept 8: Police arrested on Thursday Mufti Mohammed Sabir alias Jamalpuri, another most wanted character allegedly involved in the Sheraton Hotel bomb blast.

He was a close associate of the central character in the blast case, Sohail Habib alias Khalid, who has been awarded death sentence by the court with two others.

Speaking at a press conference, CCPO Tariq Jamil said Sabir was nabbed following information received by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) that he was on way to Karachi from Rawalpindi to plan and carry out fresh terrorist acts.

He said a special team of the AVCC began surveillance at the Sohrab Goth bus terminus. The suspect arrived there in a bus at about 6am and was arrested after an exchange of fire.

The police party, according to him, found in his bag a pistol, explosives, two launcher shells, electronic circuits and 250 KK bullets. He said Sabir was an important character in the Sheraton Hotel bomb blast of May 8, 2002, in which 14 people were killed. — APP
