GUJRANWALA, Sept 7: A Wapda meter reader was deprived of cash and injured by robbers on offering resistance here on Wednesday. Reports said Gepco cantonment sub-division meter reader Sarfraz withdrew Rs225,000 from a bank branch on GT Road and was on his way home along with his brother Imran by a motorcycle. Near Shaheenabad four dacoits riding a motorcycle intercepted him, took away the amount and opened fire on him on offering resistance.

He sustained injuries and was rushed to DHQ hospital in a critical condition. However, Imran remained unhurt.

GANG BUSTED: Satellite Town police claimed on Wednesday to have busted a six-member dacoits’ gang and recovered four motorcycles and other looted goods from their possession.

DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq said the police conducted a raid on a tip-off and arrested Atique, Zarif, Ilyas, Zahid, Tariq and Wahid from their hideout after a brief ‘encounter.’

He said they were wanted in various robbery cases.
