MULTAN: The administration of Dera Ghazi Khan Teaching Hospital has imposed penalties on 10 doctors on charges of disrupting the discipline of the institution, damaging the public property and defaming the profession.

In a letter to the hospital’s medical superintendent, the DG Khan Medical College principal stated that a meeting of academic council of the college was held on May 9 and 10 doctors were found guilty of fight at various places causing disruption in patient-related services, harassment in vicinity of the hospital, damaging the public property and creating law and order situation.

He stated that strict disciplinary action had been decided against each doctor over his [alleged] role in various illegal activities.

As per decision of the council, Dr Hafiz Nauman Hussain Chaudhry and Dr Muhammad Ameen were relieved of their duties, their stipend stopped immediately and their hostel allotment cancelled.

Stipend of Dr Abdul Manan was stopped immediately besides cancellation of his allotment. Dr Wajid Hussain Buzdar was surrendered to health department and his allotment cancelled. Salaries of Dr Umar Farooq, Dr Hidayatullah, Dr Awais Leghari and Dr Agha Shahzad were stopped immediately with the recommendation to the department to terminate their services while their allotments were also cancelled. House job of Dr Luqman was terminated besides withholding his experience certificate, stopping the stipend and cancelling the allotment. The council decided that further extension of Dr Adnan Faiz will not be considered while his salary has been stopped and his allotment cancelled.

“Identification process of more culprits in this regard is in process and disciplinary action will be recommended against them after verification/completion of identification process. It is therefore requested to ensure compliance of the decisions made by the academic council of DG Khan Medical College with immediate effect under intimation to this office,” the letter concluded.

PROTEST: Scores of doctors held a protest demonstration on Wednesday for not issuing practicing licence by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to as many as 100 medics even after completion of their house job.

The doctors gathered outside the local press club and shouted slogans against the administration of PMDC and Nishtar Medical University. They said despite completion of five-year degree including house jobs, neither the university administration nor the PMDC seemed ready to resolve their issue.
