SUKKUR, Sept 6: A complete strike was observed in Daharki, Ubauro, Jarwar, Yaroo Lund, Keenjhar and some others parts of the Ghotki district on Tuesday in protest against change in delimitation of several dehs by the Sindh government.

The strike call had been given by opponents of the Mahar group including Mian Mithoo, Sardar Ahmed Yar Shar, Jam Mehtab Dahar and Nazir Ahmed Khan Lund.

All the main markets and business centres in the areas remained closed and heavy contingents of police patrolled the affected areas to avert any untoward incident.

The protesters said they would continue their protest till the withdrawal of the decision regarding changes in the delimitation of dehs.

On the other hand, a decision has reportedly been taken to create 11 new union councils following the changes in the boundaries of 29 dehs in the five talukas in the district.

Former district nazim Sardar Ali Gohar Khan Mahar had reportedly said that four of the 11 union councils were being created on the desire of Khalid Ahmed Lund. However, the former nazim’s opponents allege that the number of union councils had been increased earlier at the behest of Mahar sardars and changing in boundaries of dehs had also been made to please them.

According to the sources, four union councils — Daharki-2, Sikandarabad, Syed Pur and Marnas – would be created, after which the seven UCs cancelled by court would be revived with some changes.

They said two union councils, Daharki-2 and Sikandarabad, would be increased in Daharki taluka, while dehs Alam Arain and Daharki were being included in the Daharki UC. The Sikandarabad union council would consist of dehs Karohi, Semno, Loni and Sityaro-2 of Keenjhar UC, they said. The Syed Pur UC would consist of Belo Rano Rehar, Deh Rano Rehar, Deh Syed Pur and Korai and the Marnas UC of dehs Marnas, Phekrato and Widhar Chano, they said.

They said the notification regarding creation of the union councils would be issued in a few days.

They said changes would be made in the boundaries of nine union councils — Keenjhar, Dad Leghari, Yaroo Lund, Reharki, Daharki, Ranwti, Mirpur Mathelo, Jarwar and Beri.

They said three dehs — Lal Pitafi, Gullo Pitafi and Kalwar – would be cut off from Keenjhar UC, said to be a stronghold of sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi.
