GUJRAT: A local court of Jhelum on Wednesday ordered the release of renowned cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza by accepting his bail plea.

The cleric had been booked and arrested by the Jhelum city police under section 153A of Pakistan Penal Code for derogatory remarks against some religious figures on Tuesday.

Civil judge Fahad Khan Sarwar accepted the bail plea and directed the suspect to submit Rs50,000 surety bond for the release.

Engineer Mirza was later set on free from the district jail in Jhelum in the evening where his supporters were also present to welcome him.
