A 55-year-old policeman has passed away in Karachi after contracting the novel coronavirus. He is the second police official in Karachi to have died from the virus.

According to Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell Senior Superintendent of Police Sarfraz Nawaz Shaikh, the deceased had tested positive last month and had self-isolated himself at his home in Karachi's Landhi area. His symptoms turned severe today and he passed away when he was being taken to the Indus Hospital.

The SSP said that the deceased was suffering from a minor heart problem which may have worsened due to complications caused by Covid-19.

So far, 99 police officials have been infected by the virus in Karachi.
