KARACHI, Sept 5: Around 50 medical students belonging to the interior of Sindh including 15 doctors on Monday staged a protest demonstration at the Karachi Press Club against curtailing the reciprocal seats of students from district Thatta in the Sindh and Dow medical colleges. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans and demanded of the government to withdraw its proposal to curtail reciprocal seats of medical students from the interior of Sindh in SMC and DMC.

On the occasion, President Sindhi Medicos Association Dr Najeebur Rehman said that the decision in question would deprive the students from the interiors of Sindh especially from the Thatta district to acquire medical education in the government medical colleges in Karachi.

He said almost a year ago, there were about 25 reciprocal seats in SMC and DMC Karachi for students of LUMS Hyderabad and CMC Larkana, but later the government announced to curtail these reciprocal seats and assured to bring seats of Thatta district to SMC and DMC.

“Now, the government is not willing to back its promise, which is creating a panic among the students,” he added.

Sindhi Doctors Forum Vice-President Dr Naveed Shah said that the students would form an action committee, which would hold protest demos in all the educational institutions, as the Sindhi students were being banned in the city’s medical colleges. — PPI
