Hampshire seal one-day trophy

LONDON, Sept 4: Zimbabwe all-rounder Sean Ervine’s century was the cornerstone of Hampshire’s 18-run C and G Trophy one-day final win against Warwickshire at Lord’s on Saturday (partly reported in Sunday’s edition).

Warwickshire, set 291 to win, finished on 272 all out with four balls remaining as Hampshire, appearing in their first Lord’s final in 13 years, made it four wins out of four in showpiece matches at the ‘home of cricket’.

Nick Knight made 118 but saw wickets fall at the other end.

With 10 overs to go Warwickshire needed 84 more to win with six wickets standing. That equation then became 40 runs off three overs with four wickets left.

Former England batsman Knight then holed out to Kevin Latouf off Andy Bichel, who finished with three for 57.

Warwickshire needed 26 off the last over with just one wicket left before Makhaya Ntini was bowled by Chris Tremlett.
