LAHORE: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Teaching Staff Association (TSA) on Thursday showed reservations over the financial problems faced by the campus.

The video link conference was held to discuss the financial problems of the university. TSA President Dr Fahim Gohar Awan said the campus was facing severe financial problems and had to get loan to pay salaries of the staff for several months.

He said the UET had paid Rs1 billion to the Punjab government for setting up Rachna College, Gujranwala, and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology, Multan.

He said former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif was involved in spending UET’s amount on setting up these campuses and the government should pay back the sum taken from the UET (Lahore).

He said the government had promised to pay half of the amount but did not give a single penny to the university.

Mr Awan said the TSA would protest if the government would not give back the money.

He said the government was spending billion of rupees on Ehsaas Programme and they should also take notice of the oldest engineering university of the country.

He said if the monetary problem continued it would bring about a negative impact on the university.
