Constable, dacoit die in encounter

OKARA, Sept 3: An Elite Force headconstable and a dacoit were killed in an encounter on Saturday evening near Chak 35/2-L, some 15 kilometres from here. The shootout between the bandits and the police was going on till the filing of this report.

Reports said that four motorcyclists snatched a cash of heavy amount from salesmen selling cigarette in a wagon near Dalowal village in Deepalpur. The matter was immediately reported to the police who alerted law-enforcers of Deepalpur and Okara through a radio message.

The police of two towns rushed to the site and started chasing the outlaws. Near Chak 35/2-L in the limits of Shah Bore police station, the outlaws entered maize fields and started firing on police. The police also returned the fire. Later, during the shootout headconstable Gul Nawaz and an unidentified bandit died on the spot.

Police have sought the help of an army helicopter for the arrest of the remaining outlaws.
