The prime minister's aide on health Dr Zafar Mirza has said that the reason Pakistan "suffers from double or triple burden of diseases" is because of its lack of investment in infection control and prevention, adding that the health sector has been transformed because of the pandemic.

Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Mirza said: "Medical industry and education will be very different, financing of health will be very different [after the pandemic]."

He warned that the coronavirus was "not an isolated outbreak" and would have "implications for future generations", adding that "we must reorganise our health sector accordingly".
