LAHORE, Sept 2: The Sudan government has sought Pakistan’s support for postgraduate training of its doctors and upgrading its healthcare facilities. A formal request in this regard has recently been made by Sudan Medical Specialization Board (SMSB) secretary Dr Zeidan Abdu Zeidan during a meeting with College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) president Prof Mohammad Sultan Farooqui. Both officials also discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the health sector.

Lauding the cooperation extended by the CPSP to Sudan, Dr Zeidan said the college’s support had helped in improving the healthcare delivery system in Sudan. He said his government would continue to be benefited through the CPSP in future.

Prof Farooqui said the college would extend cooperation to the Sudan government in providing medical education and training to doctors. He said the CPSP had been providing technical support to Sudan for the last five years. It would continue to cooperate with the SMSB in various disciplines, including holding of training programmes for examiners in both countries and surgical skills and training workshops.

He said the CPSP had supplied sample material pertaining to training and evaluation to the SMSB. The college and the SMSB would promote applied and health systems research by arranging joint research projects in areas of mutual priorities, and exchange of information, researchers, experience and training methodologies.
