NFC award by next month: Musharraf

Published September 2, 2005

QUETTA, Sept 1: President Gen Pervez Musharraf said on here Thursday that he would announce the National Finance Commission Award by next month. Addressing a gathering at the Governor’s House, he said: “I will try my best to do justice with every province in the award.”

He said the provinces empowered him to take a decision about the award after the provincial finance ministers had failed to develop a consensus over a formula for distribution of resources.

He said the centre would provide maximum share to the provinces, which would improve their economic condition and enable them to solve their economic problems.

Replying to a question, he said the provinces would not remain dependent on the centre after the announcement of the award, as they would have enough funds. “The provinces should not beg from the centre,” he remarked.

The president praised the peaceful conduct of local body elections in Balochistan.
