12 prayer leaders arrested

VEHARI, Jan 17: The local police on Thursday arrested 12 prayer leaders on the charge of misusing loudspeakers from various parts of the district.

Police said they had also rounded up 20 more activists of banned religious outfits, while the hunt to make further arrests was still on.

Meanwhile, local banks have started freezing the accounts of activists of the banned religious parties and groups.

HOUSE LOOTED: Three unidentified dacoits on Wednesday night looted the house of a retired armyman at Chak 9-11/WB Vehari.

Armed outlaws entered Luqman’s house, held the inmates hostage, scooped Rs50,000 in cash, ornaments and valuables worth Rs100,000 and fled. They severely thrashed the wife and mother of Luqman for putting up resistance. They were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital.
