KARACHI, Sept 1: Taking strict notice of growing traffic problems due to ongoing development works, Advisor to Chief Minister on Local Government Waseem Akhtar paid a three-hour long visit to various city areas and inspected the locations of traffic jams where development schemes are under way.

The Advisor was accompanied by DCO Fazlur Rehman, EDO Works Sarfraz Ali Shah, DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid, other officials and project directors.

He observed that development schemes have been started for the welfare of the city and to meet public requirement but these should not create problems for people.

He directed that work on roads should be carried out round-the-clock with deployment of additional machinery and labour so as to ensure their on time completion.

Waseem Akhtar directed that alternate routes should be properly advertised through newspapers and guide boards be installed, besides ensuring beefed up traffic police deployment for traffic control.

During the visit, the advisor inspected the University Road and Jail Chowrangi projects. On inquiry, he was informed that traffic from People’s to Jail Chowrangi for Tower is diverted through Kashmir Road via Khudadad Colony and Old Exhibition. It was stated that development work will be completed in time.

The road from Nazimabad Chowrangi No 1 to Lasbella Chowrangi, which was to be completed by Dec 2, will now be completed by Oct 10 at a cost of Rs60 million.

During visit to under-construction Altaf Ali Brelvi Road, opposite Sir Syed Girls College, the Advisor directed that it should be completed in two months as against the final completion date of Feb 2, 2006.

He also inspected the construction work of Pak Colony Road and directed that hurdles and encroachments on the alternate road should be removed. —APP
