Six wounded in Indian shelling

MUZAFFARABAD: Indian army’s heavy mortar and artillery shelling in two districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Friday left six civilians, including two teenage girls, injured and properties damaged, civil and military officials said on Saturday.

On Friday, Indian troops resorted to “unprovoked and indiscriminate” shelling not only in Sharda, Dudhnial and Shahkot sectors of Neelum district but also in Nakyal sector of Kotli district, deliberately targeting the civilian population, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media affairs wing of the Pakistan Army, and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of the AJK government.

In Nakyal sector of Kotli district, a boy and his sister identified as Usama Jahangir and Sidra Jahangir were seriously injured in Nara Dharoti village.

Shelling in the Neelum valley left four civilians seriously injured in Bessan Wali and Chhari villages, the ISPR and the SDMA said.

The SDMA identified the victims as Saba Nazir, Yasin Mir, Gulzar Mir and Hafiz Dar. The shelling also killed 33 heads of cattle.
