SBP announces refinance scheme to avoid worker layoffs

The State Bank of Pakistan has announced a new refinance scheme to avoid worker layoffs during the coronavirus pandemic. Under the new scheme:

  • Salary expenses for three months for companies who do not lay off employees will be financed
  • There will be a five per cent mark up on loans
  • Banks will not charge any loan processing fee, credit limit fee or prepayment penalties for loans
