KARAK: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl lawmakers have asked the deputy commissioner to look into the complaints that police were taking bribe to release the people arrested for defying the lockdown.

Speaking at a meeting with deputy commissioner Shah Rukh Ali Khan here the other day, MPAs Malik Zafar Azam and Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel pointed out that the health facilities across the district lacked proper hygiene despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

They informed the deputy commissioner that police were arresting the people, particularly youngsters, for violating lockdown, and set them free after taking bribes.

The lawmakers also raised questions on the distribution of wheat flour and said the process should be without any political considerations.

In response to the lawmakers’ concerns, DSP headquarters Mohammad Ismail Marwat promised action against such policemen.

The deputy commissioner informed the lawmakers about the measures taken to fight Covid-19. He said three teams of doctors had been formed for each tehsil to act promptly to any emergency.

He added that Rs20 million were being spent on setting up quarantine centres across the district.

He said 12,000 wheat bags were being provided to the local flour mills daily, 5,000 from local stock and 7,000 from Punjab, to ensure abundant flour supply in the market.

The deputy commissioner said 6,000 masks and other gadgets provided by different non-government organisations had been handed over to the health authorities. He said the tehsil municipal administrations and the personnel of Rescue 1122 were conducting spray across the district.

TWO INJURED: Two persons sustained critical injuries when a van and an oil tanker collided in Speena Banda area on the Indus Highway here the other day. The injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Karak, but the doctors referred them to a Peshawar hospital in precarious condition.

The accident suspended traffic for quite some time on the highway.
