ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: A delegation of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) on Wednesday met acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and apprised him of the incidents of rigging during the local government elections.

The PPP delegation comprised MNAs Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Qamaruz Zaman Kaira and Ghulam Murtaza Satti and Senator Dr Safdar Abbasi.

It remained with the acting CEC for about one hour and handed him over “proofs” of rigging on the polling day in various parts of the country, including Gujrat, Murree and Sindh.

Talking to Dawn, Raja Pervez Ashraf, who led the delegation, said they had apprised the acting CEC of the use of force by the ruling party candidates on the polling day in various cities.

He said they had informed the CEC that in one polling station located in the home constituency of Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Gujrat, the ruling party candidates forcefully evicted the polling agents of the Awam Dost candidate and the returning officer had to cancel the voting process.

Mr Ashraf said the returning officer ordered re-polling in the polling station on August 30, but unfortunately again the polling agents of the Awam Dost candidates were not allowed to enter the polling station.

He said the party had provided details of the incidents of rigging and bogus voting to the Election Commission of Pakistan with the hope that it would act in accordance with the laws.
