IN this April 5, 1998 filephoto Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer celebrates after scoring the winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United at Old Trafford, Manchester. Shearer, the Premier League’s record goal scorer, sealed a 1-0 win to send Newcastle to the final for the first time since 1974 where they were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal, who became the second English team to complete two league and FA Cup doubles. Newcastle also reached the final of the FA Cup the following season but lost 2-0 to Manchester United.
