PESHAWAR, Aug 30: A 13-month-old baby-girl, Gul Makai, will leave for Banglore (India) for an open-heart surgery on a special initiative of the Indian government. She will leave with her parents on Sept 2.

Gul Makai is the daughter of Tariq Ahmad Khan, who is a member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy.

Last year a delegation of the Awami National Party headed by its president Asfandyar Wali Khan visited India. During his visit the Indian government had expressed the desire to treat and operate upon 20 children from the NWFP at its expense.

Gul Makai was identified for treatment and the famous cardiac surgeon, Dr Rajesh Sharma, would conduct the surgery at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Bangalore. The child has been suffering from a cardiac disorder since birth.

Mr Tariq told Dawn that they were grateful to the Indian government for its kind gesture.
