KASUR, Aug 30: A dacoit was killed in an encounter between criminals and the villagers at Mauza Chakooki on Monday night. According to police, six dacoits were looting vehicles on Multan Road near Bhonekey when a police party reached there. On seeing the police, the criminals fled away. They entered into the house of Abdul Ghafoor in a nearby village and held the inmates hostage. The family members resisted to foil the dacoity bid on which the dacoits opened fire at them.

In the meantime, other villagers gathered outside the house and opened fire at the dacoits which led to an encounter. As a result, a dacoit received bullet injuries and remained hidden in a nearby field. On Tuesday, the police recovered the body of a dacoit. Other criminals managed to escape.

DPO Khadim Husain Bhatti has announced cash award and commendation certificates to the villagers for killing the dacoit. —APP
