PESHAWAR, Aug 29: The standing committee on Zakat and Ushr has expressed dismay over alleged irregularities in distribution of Zakat in certain parts of Dir Lower during 2002-2003.

MPA Mufti Hussain Ahmad presiding over the standing committee’s meeting, held in the conference room of the provincial assembly, claimed that the staff concerned had distributed Zakat to students of Adizai in Dir Lower on the basis of favouritism, said a press release issued here on Monday.

He said scholarships had not been granted to students of the same class and school on equal grounds.

The committee had prepared proposals for the just distribution of Zakat fund among the needy people, which (proposals) it would submit to the assembly secretariat for the next session.

The chairman of the committee directed staff to ensure fair distribution of Zakat funds in the future.

MPA Zafarrullah Khan, MPA Nasreen Khattak and others attended the meeting.

PAC COMMITTEE: A meeting of the sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee on Home (Police) Department on Monday reviewed the misappropriation of funds for the police uniform purchase, says APP.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of MPA Shahzada Mohammad Gastasip Khan, discussed the alleged misappropriation in the purchase of different items for police uniform in Kohistan, Karak, Bannu, Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera and Timergara districts.

The chairman and members of the committee took notice of the non-provision of detailed record and directed that discussion would be held on September 12, on all the 24 identical paragraphs regarding misappropriation of funds.

The chairman directed he authorities concerned to come with detailed reports on the issue and brief the members so that the committee could file its recommendations to the assembly.
