Philippines' top medical association has said that nine doctors have died in the country from the coronavirus.

According to AFP, the announcement of the doctors' deaths has heightened fears that the scale of the health crisis in the Philippines is much worse than is being officially reported, with the confirmed virus death toll at just 38.

The Philippine Medical Association said that health workers were not getting enough protection as hospitals in Manila said hundreds of medical staff were no longer accepting patients because they were undergoing 14-day self-quarantines after suspected exposure.
