KARACHI: The chairman of the Sindh Tripartite Committee for Implementation of Labour Laws has asked employers in the province to implement the government orders of payment of salaries to all their staff during the lockdown period in letter and spirit and support workers in these difficult times.

Senior members of the committee, including Zaki Ahmed, (chairman of the committee), representing Employers Federation of Pakistan (EFP); Karamat Ali of Piler and Habibuddin Junaidi of Peoples’ Labour Bureau, representing the trade unions and labour organisations and other members, in a statement issued here on Wednesday said that the committee would monitor the implementation of the said order issued on Monday with the support of the provincial labour department.

The committee was formed last year for implementation of labour laws and policy in the province after mutual consultation.

The committee asked authorities to ensure the implementation of government orders of no layoffs during the lockdown and payment of wages to all staff including daily wagers and contract employees.

The committee members would soon meet and plan a strategy.

The committee urged strict action against violators of the government orders.

It also urged the government to solve problems of employers so that businesses could function effectively.
