10 die in accident

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 28: Ten people, including a woman and her two children, were killed in a road accident near Ahmedpur East bypass, about 50 kilometres from here on Sunday.

According to reports, a coach on way to Bahawalpur from Sadiqabad collided with a motorcycle rickshaw. The rickshaw was overloaded.

Eight passengers on board the three-wheeler died on the spot while two children, Laila and Majnoo, of deceased Shamim Mai succumbed to their injuries at the tehsil headquarters hospital in Ahmedpur East.

According to traffic police sources, the accident occurred due to speeding of the coach. The driver of the coach managed to escape after the accident.

Other victims included rickshaw driver Majid alias Billoo, Bashir Ahmed, Allah Rakha, Khalid, Waqas and two unidentified passengers. Police has registered a case against the coach driver.
