LAHORE: A Dolphin Squad police constable lost his arm while another suffered multiple head injuries when their motorcycle collided with an electricity pole on Walton Road here on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, Waqas and Ahmad were going to respond to an emergency call of a crime in the same area. As they were driving too fast, they lost balance while avoiding a car and the motorcycle first collided with a footpath and then an electricity pole.

A police official said both of them suffered multiple injuries in the accident. He said Waqas lost his arm in the accident. They were taken to the Lahore General Hospital from where Waqas was referred to the Jinnah Hospital, he said.

Dolphin Squad SP Ayesha Butt and some other officers reached the hospital where doctors apprised them that the Dolphin official would have to spend the rest of his life without an arm. The doctors further told them that they were trying to save his life because of profound head injuries he suffered in the accident.

The official said the Dolphin officers had set a speed limit for the officials while patrolling roads. The complaints of speed violations had surfaced with the passage of time, he said, adding the severity of the accident showed that they were driving too fast.
