KARACHI, Aug 25: A group of diehard supporters of cricket staged demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club protesting against the omission of Pakistan and Asian XI captain Inzamamul Haq in the final World XI squad.

Right handed middle order batsman Inzamam, who led Asian XI in three match One-day series against African XI was not picked in the World XI for the Test and One-day Super Series against Australia to be played in October.

Former India captain Sunil Gavasker, heading the International Cricket Council (ICC) selection committee, overlooked Inzamam in the 13-member World XI squad.

Protestors criticised ICC chief Ehsan Mani and chief Selector Sunil Gavasker for dropping Inzamamul Haq. Gulfraz Khan described dropping of Inzamam as murder of cricket.

KCCA secretary Sirajul Islam Bukhari, who took part in the demonstration alongwith officials of various zones expressed his surprise over non-inclusion of in-form batsman Inzamam in World XI.

“Its a great injustice with the cricket as World XI is incomplete without Inzamam. It is a blow for cricket.”

The demonstration was organised by Sports Welfare Association and KCCA.—APP
