LAHORE, Aug 25: Punjab Inspector General of Police Ziaul Hasan said on Thursday the second phase of local elections was held peacefully throughout the province, says a handout.
He said the force had taken steps to ensure peaceful polling. Police had launched a crackdown against illegal weapons and recovered a huge quantity of arms, he said.
Police strictly implemented the code of conduct and did not allow anybody to display or carry weapons. Contingents of police and army remained deployed at the sensitive points and continued patrolling, he continued.
The IGP said nobody would be allowed to take out victory processions, and the violators would be dealt with sternly.
