SWABI, Aug 25: Five union councils of the Gadoon Amazai belt have formed a bloc to field a consensus candidate for the office of Tehsil Swabi nazim, it is learnt on Thursday.

Gadoon consists of Gandaf, Ghani Chatra, Gabasni, Pabiani and Kabgani union councils and leaders in this region have always worked in close cooperation.

The UC nazims-elect and other members have held three meetings since the polls on August 18 and finalized strategy for the election of nazims for tehsil Swabi and tehsil Chota Lahor.

The group is led by Hanif Jadoon, who enjoyed the backing of the Awami National Party until recently. According to unofficial results, he was elected nazim from Pabaini UC. Later, Mr Hanif declared dissociation with the ANP.

The sources said that MPA Sarfaraz Khan Jadoon, who was expelled from the ANP, had lent support to Mr Hanif.

The group was poised to announce the candidature of Mr Hanif for the Tehsil Swabi nazim, but withholding of official results has delayed it.—Correspondent
