BAHAWALPUR: A woman and her daughter suffered serious burn injures in an acid attack allegedly by her son-in-law in Mohallah Sarwar Shah in Ahmedpur East on Tuesday night.

On the orders of District Police Officer (DPO) Sohaib Ashraf, Ahmedpur East Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdul Rahim Leghari sent both victims to the THQ hospital.

The district police chief’s spokesman Jam Sajid told Dawn that Komal, daughter of the complainant Sajida Bibi, had estranged relations with her husband Farhan and had left his house a while back.

On Tuesday night, Sajida claimed, she along with Komal went to collect her daughter’s belongings from Farhan’s house. During this, Farhan appeared with a shopping bag and threw acid on both of them, injuring them on the face, chest, stomach, arms and legs.

The injured mother and daughter were shifted to Ahmedpur East THQ Hospital where they were being treated. The Ahmedpur East City police registered a first information report under Section 336-B on the complaint of Sajida.

Spokesman Jam Sajid claimed that on the DPO’s orders, DSP Leghari arrested Farhan within 12 hours of the incident and locked him up on Wednesday.

Further investigation was under way.

DOG BITE CASE: Another minor boy was attacked and injured on Tuesday night by a stray dog in Himayatian area on Hasilpur Road.

The bleeding boy was rushed to the emergency ward of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where doctors treated him.

According to BVH’s focal person/director emergency ward Dr. Aamir Bokhari, the boy identified as Sohail (5) suffered bites on his face and forehead and said he would be out of danger by Wednesday night.

Earlier, last week, 14-year old Shoaib fell victim to bites of a pack of dogs near Ramaan level crossing on Ahmedpur East Road.

The BVH emergency ward director said nowadays dog bite cases were on the rise and almost daily about 20 children attacked by dogs were reported. He said during the last 24 hours 23 dog bite cases were brought to the emergency for treatment.

HOAX CALL: Musafirkhana police on Wednesday arrested a man on the charge of making a hoax telephone call of an armed robbery to the emergency police, Bahawalpur.

Police said Qasim made an emergency telephone call to police that his motorcycle was snatched in an armed robbery. But, according to police, when the personnel reached the scene, it was revealed that Qasim had some personal dispute with Asif who had caught hold of Qasim’s bike. Police booked Qasim in the hoax call case and arrested him at the spot.

KIDNAP CASE: Baghdadul Jadid police on Wednesday registered a case of kidnapping of a man who had gone missing from Satellite Town area on Feb 29.

According to first information report registered under section 365, complainant Khalid Saeed said his brother Shahid Mahmood Saleemi, a retired PTCL staffer, went missing on Feb 29. Further investigation is under way.

DISPOSED OF: On the orders of Bahawalpur District and Sessions judge Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Ojla, Hasilpur Civil Judge Jam Faiz Muhammad on Wednesday disposed of a large quantity of confiscated arms in several cases.

According to a press release, the arms including rifles, guns and pistols broken into pieces and converted into scraps were auctioned at the spot.
