NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Aug 25: Cotton and sugarcane crops over 300 acres of land were inundated when a 30-foot wide breach occurred in the Budika distributary near the Khuda Bux Buriro village, Kandiaro taluka, on Thursday.

Residents of the village said the distributary was not being looked after properly by officials of the irrigation department.

They said they had told the SDO irrigation, Bhirya sub-division, about increase in the water level.

They said the official was also asked to repair weak portions of the water channel but no attention was paid.

They said irrigation staff was not available and they were patrolling along embankments.

The executive engineer of the irrigation, Rohri division, and the SDO of Bhirya sub-division, visited the site.

Irrigation officials Manzoor Ahmed and Mohammad Zaman Khaskheli said the breach was plugged by the irrigation staff with the help of villagers.—BoC
