THE Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta is undoubtedly the most beautiful Mughal structure in Sindh. I had heard a lot about this beautiful mosque but had never visited it. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to visit it recently.

When I reached the place, it had a picturesque view. I was completely overcome by the awe of its majestic magnificence. This masterpiece was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan more than 350 years ago.

The Shah Jahan mosque’s architectural style is influenced by Turkic and Persian styles. The mosque is characterised by extensive brickwork and the use of blue tiles, both of which were directly influenced by Timurid architectural styles from Central Asia.

The feature I liked the most about the mosque was its domes. It has a total of 93 domes, more than in any structure in Pakistan.

In the end, I would like to say that whilst my journey to this beautiful place was rewarding there are certain improvements that could be made to this place and its surroundings.

The lighting element could be more focused which would further beautify this place at night.

A lot of tourists do stay back until evening and therefore it is worthwhile spending more on lighting up this place coupled with having better maintenance done for the structure itself. It is of paramount importance to have the maintenance done on a regular basis.

It is a definitely must visit destination, but please do take extra care not to litter and leave the sight pristine for others to take in its beauty.
