SIALKOT, Aug 24: Five members of a family are contesting the local election for different seats in Union Council No 3, Shakargarh city (Narowal). According to reports, Sheikh family head Zaheer Ahmad and his wife Shamim Akhtar are in the run for general councillor seats, their daughter-in-law Faiza Faiz is trying her luck for labour councillor’s position and their two nephews — Waseem alias Munna and Haseeb Ahmad (a former UC nazim) — are in the run for labour councillor and naib nazim slots, respectively.

Speaking to journalists at Shakargarh, the family expressed hope that they would win the elections by dint of biradari support.

They said they had won the hearts of people by adopting good and non-traditional election strategies.

The LB polls are being held in Narowal on Thursday (today).

Re-polling: Repolling in Sialkot district’s 10 rural union councils will be held on Thursday amid tight security.

DPO Usama Mumtaz told newsmen on Wednesday that the law-enforcing agencies had ensured the implementation of a foolproof security plan for holding free, fair and transparent elections in these union councils.

Earlier, district returning officer Chaudhry Aslam had ordered repolling in these union councils following the opposition parties’ complaints about rigging by the ruling party in the first phase of local polls held on Aug 18.

The repolling will be held in Sialkot tehsil’s two and Pasrur tehsil’s eight union councils.
