GUJRANWALA: The introduction of a shuttle train between Gujranwala and Lahore has been hailed by the local public as they expect a speedy journey to the provincial capital.

This has been their longstanding demand since they faced traffic congestion on the national highway and loss of time.

The shuttle train with scheduled stops at Eminabad, Kamoki and Muridke is expected to cover the distance between the two cities in 50 minutes.

Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid inaugurated train on Monday at the local railway station.

Talking to media, the minister said that the people of Gujranwala needed this service as they faced commuting problems.

Later, the minister attended a meeting at the GCCI where local traders and businessman were also present. He promised a goods train between Gujranwala and Karachi and a dryport

Meanwhile, residents of Wazirabad have demanded that the shuttle train route be extended up to their town.
